Well, I have to say that was absolutely unbelieveable! The band I think totally locked together, and it was brilliant. My favourite song was Oasis, a beautiful ballad.
Now that I've seen Weckl in action, it makes me appreciate him even more. He's well in time and even though he did a lot of complex drumming, he also laid down a solid beat, e.g "Pursuit". He's just convinced me even more that he's one of the elite. He's a whole musician.
There's someone that I know that's given up because he went to see Weckl, I think that's stupid because it should inspire us to play better, not to give up! It just takes time and commitment.
Steve Weingart's playing was beyond me, definetely the best keyboard player I've seen and Gary Meek was brill on the soprano sax. Tom Kennedy was ok but he didn't really respond, he's not the greatest groover. But he's great.
I loved the clinic in which he was talking about his natural evolution again. That was great to see. He also talked about the Moeller technique, which was interesting. He also gave me a new approach to playing time- and that is the space. I've never thought of it like that before.
I just wish that I could have met the great man and got a photo with him. Oh well , may be next time!
